Save Your Teeth - Lose The Bad Habits!
Updated: Aug 6, 2022

In addition to maintaining your regular dental check-up’s to monitor your teeth and overall oral health, there are a few bad habits you may have that you need to break. Brushing, flossing and routine dental check-ups are tops for keeping your smile bold, bright and beautiful but don’t sabotage the good with the bad……
When brushing your teeth, thoroughly shouldn’t translate to rough!
Crunching, Munching and Chewing on Ice. Oh my goodness, this is a very common bad habit that can do serious damage to your teeth and the nerves in your teeth. Ice chewing can lead to sensitivity, a chipped or cracked tooth and harm the tissues surrounding your teeth.
Grinding Teeth. In one of our previous posts, we discussed how teeth grinding [bruxism] can lead to chipped or cracked teeth. Grinding your teeth can be an absent minded habit so start paying attention especially during times of stress.
Brushing Your Teeth Too Vigorously. We want you to brush your teeth thoroughly at least two times a day but thoroughly shouldn’t translate to rough! Remember, it’s best to use a soft-bristled brush and to brush for at least 2 mins. Brushing your teeth too roughly can lead to tissue damage, gum bleeding and inflammation. Which can lead to more severe problems.
Biting Your Fingernails. We can’t even begin to tell you the bacteria and general nastiness that lies under your fingernails. So, not only are you inviting those nasties into your mouth you are also risking chipping or cracking a tooth and promoting jaw dysfunction.
Teeth are NOT Tools! You should never, ever, ever use your teeth as a tool for opening bottles, ripping open packets or any other crazy idea. Again, teeth are not tools.
